"Technology and Client Community Access to Legal Services - Suggestive Scenarios on Community Legal Education, Intake, and Referral and Pro Se"
Michael Genz - 020024
Abstract Number: 020024
June 2003
Michael Genz, Director of the LSC's Office of Program Performance, presented this article at the "Technology and the Future of Legal Services Conference" conference held in Arlington, Virginia in 1998. Genz's article, subsequently published in the University of District of Columbia Law Review, demonstrates how technology could enhance community access to legal services. By examining a fictional scenario where an individual attempts to resolve a civil legal problem, this article illustrates how technological, managerial, and institutional developments could not only resolve minor civil legal problems but also provide a technological infrastructure that removes many barriers to the justice system. Specifically, Genz envisions how technology can provide instant access to the justice system through advances in technology such as interactive telemonitors, increased bandwidth, and next generation browsers.
