"Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission Proposal"
Massachusetts State Planning Board for Civil Legal Services - 040055
Abstract Number: 040055
July 2004
The Massachusetts State Planning Board for Civil Legal Services developed a draft proposal to establish a statewide access to justice commission in order to improve access to justice in Massachusetts and realize the legal services community's shared mission and core values. The draft proposal outlines how the Access to Justice Commission will likely function, including sections dedicated to the commission's purpose, membership, staffing, and general operations. The Massachusetts State Planning Board for Civil Legal Services is currently seeking feedback on the draft proposal from bar associations and foundations, legal services providers, and other entities involved in access to justice issues throughout the state. After incorporating suggestions and comments from stakeholders, the State Planning Board will submit a final proposal to the Supreme Judicial Court in the fall. The proposal's appendix includes the Massachusetts State Planning Board for Civil Legal Services' "Vision, Mission, Core Values and Core Capacities" document, which identifies the Massachusetts' legal services community's 10 core values and capacities as well as a vision and mission statement.
