Diversity

Valuing diversity is and has been an important guide post for LSC throughout its history, but in 2000, the Corporation committed to emphasize and highlight diversity in its work with the field. In 2000, LSC, in partnership with NLADA, held a series of conversations to explore the challenges and successes experienced by the legal services community in addressing issues of diversity and inclusion. Building on the information provided during this 12-month dialog held with various stakeholders on regional and national levels, LSC formulated an action agenda which articulates specific strategies that will be employed to create state justice communities that are inclusive and responsive to the maximum number of clients in the most effective way. The ultimate goal of diversity is to value a broad range of people and notions. Diversity helps us grasp the connections between various aspects of our individuality. Affinities are recognized on gender lines, along race and ethnicity patterns, and there is an acceptance of how they link us as well as make us unique. There are a variety of strategies for achieving state justice communities that are diverse, inclusive and multi-culturally competent -- on all levels. We hope that the presentation of diversity information at this site will be helpful in this process.
