Online Domestic Violence Protection Project

Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services - 030085

Abstract Number: 030085

May 2003

Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services (SMRLS) received a Technology Initiative Grant (TIG) from the Legal Services Corporation to implement a web-based resource for domestic violence victims that will enable users to access crucial resources, develop safety plans, and file judicial orders for protection through Minnesota's statewide website. The Domestic Violence Protection Project (DV Project) will enable users to file judicial orders for protection by completing the required forms online through a guided question and answer interface. These forms may be filed and used in all Minnesota courts. The DV Project will be accessible from any computer with internet access and does not require a special client side browser or software to complete or print out the forms. The security of domestic violence survivors is a priority. Security features will be implemented to ensure maximum security of survivors. Once completed, this template may be used by other providers who are interested in developing an online domestic violence resource with document assembly and electronic filing capabilities. The document assembly portion of this project will be completed online using Hotdocs. SMRLS anticipates launching this project in late 2003.
