Colorado Ethics Committee Hotline Handbook

Colorado Bar Association - 070027

Abstract Number: 070027

June 2007

The Ethics Committee of the Colorado Bar Association (CBA) established a Hotline Subcommittee to give immediate advice on ethics to attorneys via telephone.  CBA Staff get about one thousand ethics phone calls a year; callers are referred to Hotline Subcommittee members accordingly.  The Hotline Subcommittee recently developed a handbook titled, "Hotlines and Ethics: The Latitudes and Limitations," to help subcommittee members answer calls more effectively.  The handbook is used during the orientation of new members in additional to serving as a reference tool for existing members.  In addition to the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct, the handbook contains sections ethical opinions, articles, ethical homilies and phrases that all subcommittee members should know,  a list of committee and subcommittee members, and what the committee calls "tips and tricks."
