2006 Private Attorney Involvement Plan

Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. - 070085

Abstract Number: 070085

August 2007

Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. (LAD) established its 2006 Private Attorney Involvement Plan (Plan) in accordance with 45 CFR 1614.  Through this Plan LAD will place and close 1,000 cases with pro bono attorneys in 2006.  LAD will diversify the types of cases they place, emphasizing those cases that are priority to the LAD clients.  A wide variety of ways to participate in pro bono work is offered to the attorneys which includes different types of projects and seminars.  The Private Attorney Involvement Unit (PAI) promotes pro bono participation by the private bar.  LAD uses different recruitment methods to recruit and retain pro bono attorneys and provides free trainings to prospective pro bono attorneys.  Support and technical assistance is provided to volunteer attorneys by LAD.  The PAI staff follows specified procedures to assure quality representation of LAD clients.  To encourage the Plan LAD held an evening Pro Bono Awards Ceremony on in September 2005 to recognize the overwhelming pro bono contributions of many attorneys, firms and corporate legal staff in the tri-country area.
