State Bar of Georgia and Georgia Legal Services - 030108
Abstract Number: 030108
May 2003
State Bar of Georgia Pro Bono Project and Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) developed a comprehensive manual detailing their PAI program and policies. This manual was created for use by regional pro bono coordinators throughout Georgia as well as for volunteer attorneys providing pro bono services through GLSP. Historically, each of GLSP's nine regional pro bono coordinators developed their own approach to PAI efforts resulting in each office having their own form letters and tickler systems to coordinate volunteers. This manual was created to standardize GLSP's approach to PAI efforts while also serving as a substantive resource volunteers and GLSP employees could draw upon in their work. The manual not only includes policies and procedural information but also a vast array of forms and letters that PAI coordinators would find tremendously helpful. Through implementing this manual, GLSP will have a standard approach to record keeping yet still allowing pro bono coordinators flexibility in their organizational approach. The manual includes chapters on the following topics:
Project Description
Participating Attorneys
Persons Eligible for Legal Assistance
Cases Handled by Pro Bono and "We Pay You a Reduced Fee" Attorneys
Application for Legal Services
Case Assignment to Volunteer Lawyers
