Michigan Poverty Law Project

Legal Services of South Central Michigan and the University of Michigan Law School - 070093

Abstract Number: 070093

August 2007

The Michigan Poverty Law Project (MPLP) is a cooperative effort between LSC funded Legal Services of South Central Michigan and the University of Michigan Law School (UMLS).  The project was created in 1997.  The goals of MPLP are: to support the advocacy of field programs; to coordinate advocacy for the poor among the local programs; and to assure that a full range of advocacy continues on behalf of the poor. MPLP provides state support services to local legal services programs and other poverty law advocates. The Project is jointly funded and staffed by UMLS and LSSCM.  UMLS students are recruited and trained to work under the legal supervision of the experienced MPLP attorney staff.
