Ohio's Attorney General has partnered with the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation (OLAF) to create this program that trains volunteer attorneys from the Ohio Attorney General's office to provide free legal assistance to low-income seniors in Ohio. Attorneys are trained to assist clients with wills, advance directives (living wills, durable powers of attorney for health care) and general powers of attorney. After attorneys complete their training, attorneys can provide free legal services for up to 40 hours per year. Volunteers can receive additional assistance from mentors provided by the Columbus Bar Association, the Legal Aid Society of Columbus or Pro Seniors. To ensure accessibility and efficiency, OLAF set-up a toll-free intake hotline where applicants are screened and connected with an attorney. This program helps ameliorate end-of-life problems faced by the elderly by ensuring that the wishes of the elderly are carried out upon their incapacity or death.
