Southern Arizona Legal Aid's (SALA) Volunteer Lawyers Program (VLP), a collaborative with local bar associations, matches attorneys who wish to do pro bono work with low-income clients in need of civil legal assistance. The VLP also offers pro se assistance workshops and clinics to community members who seek help with legal issues within the SALA priorities. The VLP offers workshops and clinics in English and Spanish. These workshops are intended to educate clients so they may pursue their own pro se representation. If a group session is not sufficient to meet the needs of an individual, the VLP offers follow-up clinics to provide additional one-on-one assistance. The VLP staff estimated that in 2007 volunteers contributed approximately 20,693 hours of legal services valued at $4,138,500. SALA's Volunteer Lawyer Program is staffed by one full-time director, one full-time student coordinator, two full-time county coordinators, three full-time administrative assistants and one full-time secretary.
