In Pittsburgh, the Academy of Trial Lawyers has joined with the EducationLawCenter, Neighborhood Legal Services Association, and the Allegheny County Bar Foundation's ProBonoCenter to develop a signature pro bono project that provides lawyers to represent students at school board expulsion hearings. The project will be exclusively the Academy's project and all of the volunteer lawyers will come from the ranks of the Academy's membership. Under this new partnership, the EducationLawCenter, a non-profit public interest law center that provides free legal advice and technical assistance to children and families on issues of public education, will screen expulsion cases that come into its office for income eligibility. Attorneys from the EducationLawCenter will provide introductory training for which participating attorneys will receive CLE credit.
