Advice and Referral Clinics

District of Columbia Bar Pro Bono Program - 070016

Abstract Number: 070016

June 2007

The District of Columbia Bar Pro Bono Program offers monthly Advice and Referral Clinics at two community sites to serve the civil legal needs of low-income and disadvantaged residents.  These Saturday clinics are staffed by volunteer attorneys who provide free legal advice and referral on any civil matter governed by D.C. law.  The types of civil legal matters addressed include bankruptcy and debt collection, consumer law, employment law, family law, health law, housing law, immigration and asylum, personal injury, probate matters, public benefits and tax law.

In addition, Spanish Language Advice & Referral Clinics are held quarterly where volunteer lawyers travel a predominantly Latino neighborhood to help provide greater access to legal services to non-English proficient community members.
