Fair Housing Enforcement Project

Monroe County Legal Assistance Corporation - 020020

Abstract Number: 020020

May 2002

The Monroe County Legal Assistance Corporation (MCLAC) created the Fair Housing Enforcement Project to provide free legal assistance to persons who have been discriminated against in a housing transaction. While legal assistance is provided to those who are victims of housing discrimination, the goal of the project is to reduce housing discrimination by increasing voluntary compliance with the federal fair housing laws through a public relations campaign. MCLAC seeks to encourage voluntary compliance by informing their community of the need to make fair housing a community value and an attribute to be expected of landlords. MCLAC's public relations campaign includes radio, television, and print advertisements educating the public of their rights and informing them how to report illegal discriminatory housing practices.
