Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas and the Texas Legal Services Center - 070043

Abstract Number: 070043

June 2007

Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas (LANWT) and the Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC) have formed a partnership to coordinate the delivery of legal services to elderly or disabled victims of abuse, neglect, or exploitation residing in Texas facilities. Under Texas law, a "facility" is a nursing home, adult daycare center, community-based Section 1915 Medicaid waiver programs, and other long-term care programs.  People transitioning in or out of these facilities also qualify for the partnership's services.  The partnership uses legal services staff attorneys to handle most cases and engages private volunteer attorneys to provide more complicated legal services.  LANWT and TLSC also provide the volunteer attorneys with training, evidence gathering, and legal analysis assistance.
