Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law published an article titled "Financial Education and Asset-Building Programs for Welfare Recipients and Low-Income Workers: The Illinois Experience." The author is Dory Rand who formerly worked for Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law. The article discusses the efforts to create innovative financial education and asset building programs for welfare recipients and low-income workers by a diverse statewide coalition called Financial Links for Low-Income People (Fllip). The article covers how Fllip participants learned money management skills, accessed important work supports, and built savings through regular band accounts and through restricted, matched savings accounts called Individual Development Accounts. Ms. Rand discusses the results of Fllip Programs, lesson learned and Best Practices.
