Domestic Violence Assistance Project

Bay Area Volunteer Lawyers Program - 080050

Abstract Number: 080050

July 2008

Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and Cumberlands developed a Succession Plan for their Executive Director position.  The Plan addresses protocols for both unanticipated/ temporary changes and permanent changes. The plan describes the different protocols for each situation and the process related to them.

The following are the areas the Succession Plan discusses for both types of changes:

The Hillsborough Association of Women Lawyers in collaboration with Bay Area Legal Services' Bay Area Volunteer Lawyers Program (BAVLP) and other community agencies developed and implemented the Domestic Violence Assistance Project (DVAP) in March 1996.  It is a pro bono project designed to provide an opportunity for volunteer lawyers to assist victims of domestic violence.  Volunteer lawyers provide assistance at the courthouse with completing form petitions for injunction of protection and provide information about the domestic violence injunction process.  BAVLP recently developed a training DVD that gives the volunteers appropriate resources and information to help victims of domestic abuse.  BAVLP has expanded the DVAP to serve residents of West Pasco County as well as Hillsborough County.
