Staff with the Iowa Legal Aid have written a Volunteer Lawyers Project Practice Manual which, in 2000, was converted to CD-Rom. It is now available with updates making the manual current through January 2002. The Practice Manual is designed for volunteer attorneys who are assisting clients referred by Iowa Legal Aid's offices as well as Legal Services attorneys. Specifically, it provides detailed legal information regarding various issues covered while representing low-income clients in an easy to use and understand format. The CD contains 11 chapters, a link to the Iowa Code, a search engine for the entire CD, a search engine for individual chapters within the CD and a Help Guide. Operating the CD is fairly simply. First, a user can select a particular area of law from the table of contents. Next, the user can select a more particular area, a sub-heading within the table of contents for that chapter. Each topic area contains detailed federal and state case law and statutes, information on proceeding with a claim and remedies available for a claim. Additionally, because the CD is viewed in Acrobat Reader, users may copy any selected text from the CD and paste it into Microsoft Word or Word Perfect. The cut and paste feature will save attorneys, secretaries and paralegals valuable time in drafting documents for court. The Iowa State Bar Foundation funded the CD and the Iowa State Bar Association published the CD. The chapters included in the CD are as follows:
