Over the two decades since 1983, Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) has established standards to assure that quality work was being produced throughout the program. GLSP developed standards for casehandling, first year attorney training, attorney skills development, and supervision. These standards seek to assure that all GLSP work and employees meet certain performance standards. The standards are as follows:
First Year Attorney Training Protocol - This protocol identifies the training new attorneys will receive during their first year at GLSP. The training expectations are divided into sub categories covering the attorney's first week, first month, first three months, etc.
Minimum Attorney Skills Development Standards - This protocol identifies the minimum skills a GLSP attorney should develop during his or her first three years of tenure at GLSP. The minimum skills benchmarks are established for the attorney's first six months, second six months, second year, and third year of employment by GLSP.
Minimum Standards of Supervision - This set of guidelines lays out minimum standards and expectations for supervisors and identifies the supervisor's responsibilities in assuring his or her supervisees are meeting minimum expectations.
Minimum Legal Work Standards - These standards identify minimum expectations for casehandling, covering such things as opening memos, identification of deadlines, maintaining contact with clients, and more. These have been used for internal GLSP peer reviews to monitor attorney legal work and paralegal work.
