Attorney Performance Standards

Legal Action of Wisconsin, Inc. -  070001

Abstract Number: 070001

March 2007

Legal Action of Wisconsin, Inc. (LAW) developed Attorney Performance Standards to assist each LAW staff attorney in providing competent legal representation to the organization's clients.  These Standards are intended to help new attorneys function as efficiently as possible from the beginning to the end of the client assistance or representation process.  Although it is recognized that each attorney will develop his/her own style, supervising attorneys will refer to the standards in evaluating each attorney's work.  In addition, the standards will provide experienced attorneys a measure against which they can continue to evaluate their own performance.  Some of the general Standards are: keep up with new development in the law, commit a sufficient amount of time to work, obtain the necessary supervision, and work closely with community organizations.  There are also Standards related to identification of law reform issues and guidelines on processing cases from intake to closing.
