Using those originally suggested by Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA), Bay Area Legal Aid (BALA) developed performance standards to establish a criteria by which staff and the program can be evaluated. BALA created four separate sets of standards to evaluate the program, attorney performance, paralegal performance, and support staff performance. The performance standards evaluate staff performance in light of their experience and position. Overall program performance is evaluated in light of the programs ability to build and maintain positive client and community relations, implement BALA's mission and policies, and to effectively resolve their clients' legal problems.
