Virginia Legal Aid Society (VLAS) operates a loan repayment assistance program (LRAP) to help attorneys repay outstanding educational loans that accrued while attending law school. VLAS attorneys are eligible to receive LRAP assistance after completing their first six months of employment with VLAS. Attorneys may receive up to $200 per month in LRAP assistance after paying a monthly $50 copayment. During a participating attorney's first five years with VLAS, LRAP assistance will be provided as loans. Between years five and eleven, each participating attorney will receive a grant as well as incremental forgiveness on outstanding loans and interest as indicated in the chart below.
