South Carolina Legal Services (SCLS) conducted a self-evaluation reviewing and comparing the LSC Performance Criteria and ABA Standards with the SCLS operations and their Policy and Procedures Manual. SCLS discussed the LSC Performance Criteria with managing attorneys and members of its administration. Staff committees were created and appointed for each of the LSC Performance Areas. It was the collective job of each Performance Area Committee to review their LSC Performance Criteria and the ABA Standards, and determine the extent to which SCLS met the criteria and standards. Committee members included representatives from large and small offices, all former programs, all areas of the state, members of the management and other staff volunteers. Where deficiencies were found, new policies drafted and finalized during the course of a two-day meeting of members of the administration, chairs of the Performance Area Committees, and members of the SCLS Procedures Committee. The new policies were reviewed with staff at meetings in every office and were also reviewed by SCLS Board. The Policy and Procedures Manual was revised/restructured to include the new policies.
