Legal Services of Northern California's Education Empowerment Project

Legal Services of Northern California launched the Education Empowerment Project: Legal and Community Solutions to deliver legal information and services on education issues to parents, students, and educators in Yolo County, California. Coordinated by an Equal Justice Works Fellow, this project seeks to empower parents, students and educators through a two-pronged approach that provides direct services to parents and students as well as a public education component offered through the local school system.

"A Question of Quality" by Jeanne Charn and Randi Youells

Jeanne Charn of Harvard Law School and Randi Youells, LSC's Vice President of Programs wrote "A Question of Quality" to begin a discussion on approaches to ensuring the delivery of high quality legal services. Charn and Youells identify several core and expanded components of a "Quality Matrix" and discuss how these components provide a starting point for a larger discussion in the legal services community on program quality issues.

Ohio State Legal Services Association's Loan Repayment Assistance Program

Ohio State Legal Services Association (OSLSA) operates a loan repayment assistance program (LRAP) to assist attorneys, paralegals, and select technology staff in repaying certified educational loans that accumulated while pursuing a law degree, paralegal certification, or technical training. Full-time eligible employees may receive up to 50% of their monthly loan obligation up to $200.00 per month.

Community Voice Mail

Working with social service agencies around the country, CVM distributes free, personalized voice mail numbers, directly linking individuals to jobs, housing, and stability. CVM has found that a reliable, local message number is critical for people who are seeking work, housing and/or fleeing domestic violence. Community Voice Mail has also become an important tool for social workers, case managers and legal service providers - allowing them to stay connected and deliver services to clients who would otherwise be hard to reach. Learn how your program can collaborate with CVM to offer this service to your client community.

Spotlight on Outcomes Assessment Projects

How has your program assessed client outcomes? The LSC Resource Library is looking for projects and materials that could be replicated by other legal services programs. In each issue of eNews, we will identify an area that we feel would be beneficial for research due to a lack of accessible information.

Contribute Information from Your Program

We encourage you to submit information about projects at your legal services program. Submitting projects to LRI is easy. Complete our submission form and an LSC staff member will contact you for additional information.

"Ask Larry"

What type of projects do you want to learn about? Is there a challenge you are tackling for which someone else may have a solution? The LRI team will gather projects and locate tools that are of particular interest to the legal services community. Email requests to: LRI@lsc.gov.
