The Massachusetts Legal Services Diversity Coalition, part of the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation (MLAC), created the Diversity Action Plan to establish a roadmap and guide for statewide and local diversity efforts in Massachusetts over the next three years (2003-2006). The Diversity Action Plan is a culmination of efforts by the Massachusetts Legal Services Diversity Coalition to assess diversity in legal services in Massachusetts and create a goal oriented action plan with concrete steps to achieve these goals. The Plan was developed collaboratively with: the Massachusetts Project Directors, the programs' Affirmative Action Officers, the Attorneys of Color group, and coordinated by the Diversity Coalition Steering Committee. The goals outlined in the plan are:
Build an Organizational Culture, Values, and Structure that Support Diversity
Create Leadership/Career Development Opportunities for Underrepresented Groups
Recruit, Hire, and Retain a More Diverse Staff
Build Partnerships with Diverse Communities
The Diversity Coalition developed this Diversity Action Plan to support MLAC and LSC funded programs' efforts to deliver high-quality, culturally competent legal services to a diverse population. The Diversity Coalition envisions this plan as a way to improve legal services statewide as well as foster diversity in leadership and the legal services work force as a whole.
