Model Affirmative Action Plan
Massachusetts Legal Services Diversity Coalition - 030025
Abstract Number: 030025
April 2003
The Massachusetts Legal Services Diversity Coalition created this model affirmative action plan in order to provide legal services programs in Massachusetts with a substantive model to support program efforts in developing an affirmative action plan and meeting diversity goals. All MLAC funded programs are required to have an affirmative action plan and, while MLAC does not require any particular content within the plan, this plan provides programs with a goal oriented approach that details policy, implementation, and administration. This plan promotes a diverse and supportive work place by shaping employment practices as well as board member selection. This plan seeks to ensure that individuals are not discriminated against on the basis of age, class, color, disability, ethnicity, faith, gender, national origin, race, or sexual orientation. To administer the plan, programs are advised to designate an Affirmative Action Officer and an Affirmative Action Committee who works with management to implement the plan and conduct periodic self-evaluations to ensure the program is meeting its diversity goals.
The Massachusetts Legal Services Diversity Coalition created this plan in 2001 and, at the time of creation, this plan complied with laws pertaining to employment of personnel. Affirmative action law is constantly evolving and it is important to remain abreast of developments to ensure continued compliance.
