Legal Services Corporation and the National Legal Aid & Defender Association sponsored a series of conversations on gender and diversity issues facing the legal services community. The first meeting held March 31, 2001 in San Diego, CA, opened with a general discussion on challenges facing women in the legal services community. Topics included challenges some women experience in leadership positions and the frustrations others face trying to become leaders. The discussion also focused on other challenges/hurdles facing women within legal services programs and the legal services community. The discussion included gender problems that are exacerbated or complicated by race.
