Evora A. Thomas and Patricia M. Hanrahan's article "Diversity is a State of Being - And it Requires Board Support" explores the need and LSC's efforts to support grantees and members of state justice communities goals to achieve greater diversity and inclusion. This article illustrates how discussions on diversity and discrimination held in 2001 with legal services leaders contributed to the creation of the LSC Leadership and Diversity Advisory Committee, and more recently, led to the development of a board training module entitled, Leadership and Diversity: the Link that Promotes Effective Delivery of Legal Services. Recognizing that legal services programs' board of directors are instrumental in shaping and leading programs, Thomas and Hanrahan discuss how the board training module will help organizations both understand the very concrete rewards of diversity and how to manage diversity to the advantage of clients and the program. To support this board training module, Thomas and Hanrahan point out LSC efforts to train facilitators who will educate interested programs' boards on how to best use the training module.
