A Report on Rural Issues and Delivery and

The LSC-Sponsored Symposium - 030096

Abstract Number: 30096

May 2003

Legal Services Corporation published "A Report on Rural Issues and Delivery and The LSC-Sponsored Symposium" to highlight issues explored at the Rural Issues and Delivery Symposium (RIDS) Conference held last October and November in Nebraska City, Nebraska. RIDS convened a number of "national thinkers" to explore ways to improve access to legal services in rural areas. To provide readers with background information on rural delivery issues, this report begins by defining "rural" through the experiences of the conference attendees and then illustrates traditional barriers encountered by clients in rural areas. LSC organized this conference to serve as a starting point to facilitate and support the development of a more integrated and networked rural delivery system to overcome barriers encountered in rural areas. Conference attendees discussed noteworthy policies and projects in recognition that knowledge sharing through replicating best practices will contribute to improving the delivery of legal services in rural areas. The report also includes an Appendix with a wealth of information pertaining to the conference. To access the full report as a PDF document, click on the text below.
