A Guide to World Trade Center (WTC) Disaster-Related Assistance

Legal Aid Society - 050021

Abstract Number: 050021

November 2005

The Legal Aid Society, located in New York City, published "A Guide to World Trade Center (WTC) Disaster-Related Assistance" to provide assistance to people directly and indirectly impacted by the attacks on 9/11/01. This guide provided information on benefits which include assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund of 2001, shelter assistance, child care, disaster unemployment assistance, Small Business Administration (SBA) loans, and more. The guide also included a section on immigration status and its correlation to eligibility for various forms of assistance and public benefits. This manual should only be used as a model for other disaster relief manuals because many of the programs described in this manual were established to address needs after 9/11 and are no longer functioning.
